Willie Booker, Jr. age 98 of Hamburg, AR died Friday, July 29, 2022 at his home.  He was a native of Memphis, but a long time resident of Hamburg, a retired (1984) horticultural specialist for the state of Arkansas, a United States Navy veteran, and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent and trusted advisor for several years. He also served as a City Councilman for the city of Hamburg for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Jean Booker, two sons, Roy Lewis Booker and Milton Booker, a daughter, Linda Kaye Johnson, his parents, Willie S. and Arena Booker, a sister, Maggie Booker and four brothers, Louis, Randle, Roosevelt and Eli Booker.  Willie was a lover of nature who enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables and tending to animals.  He loved fishing and hunting, and most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by two sons, Lawrence and wife Helen Booker of Hamburg, AR and Calvin and wife Janetta Booker of Atlanta, GA, one daughter, Kimberly and husband Calvin Frierson of Hamburg, AR, three brothers, Rev. John Eddie Booker of Memphis, TN, Rev. Jessie Booker of Earl, R, and Rev. Richard and wife Sharon Booker of Kendleton, TX, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Active pallbearers are Calvin Booker, Jr., Lawrence Edward Booker, Anthony Booker, Jr., Calvin Frierson, Jr., Collin Frierson, and Derick Booker. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Vaughn, Jerome Booker, Demarco Booker, Dr. Calvin Johnson, Anthony Booker, and Ronald Hubbard.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022 5:30-7:00 at Cromwell Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in the Roy Lewis Booker Memorial Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. of Hamburg, AR.
