"Sonnyman" Woods
June 19, 1932 – September 9, 2020
Mr. William C. Woods Sr., 88, affectionately known as "Sonnyman", went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2020. He was a native of Portland, AR, but a resident of Montrose, AR for the majority of his life. Mr. Woods was a member of Brown Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Woods was known for being a hard worker. Some of his occupations included being a farmer, a fireman for the city of Montrose, and a school bus driver.
Mr. Woods is preceded in death by his parents, George and Maybell Woods; siblings, George Woods, Clayborn Woods, Beaulah Woods, Mildred Woods, James Woods, Dora Gipson, Lucille Walker and Geraldine Harvey; two grandchildren, Courtney Woods and William O'Brian Woods; and one great grandchild, Laiken Woods. Mr. Woods enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, playing dominos and watching sports. However, his favorite hobby of all was barbequing and entertaining his family and friends.
The legacy of Mr. Woods will continue through his beautiful, loving wife of 68 years, Mrs. Geneva Woods; his children, Emma Woods, Vernestine Holmes (Ray), Larry Woods, Sr. (Ella), all of Montrose, AR, Arletha Jordan (Phillip), Williams Woods, Jr., both of Lake Village, AR, Joyce Woods and Vanessa Hoffman, both of Portland, AR; his grandchildren, who adoringly call him "Daddy"; Regina Martin, Ronald Martin (Chandra), Marcus Johnson (Keychira), Dextral Woods, Kenyon Woods, Santresa Brown, Landriel Woods, Cre-Shunda Williams, Christopher Holmes, Janeva White, Brittany Woods, Larry Woods, Jr., and Janet Hoffman; a special sister-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Woods; thirty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Service will be Saturday, September 19, 2020, 11:00 a.m., on the front lawn of Brown Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 693 Hwy 160 E. Portland, with Pastor Walter Witherspoon, Jr. officiating. Active Pallbearers are his grandsons; Ronald Martin, Marcus Johnson, Dextral Woods, Kenyon Woods, Landriel Woods, Christopher Holmes, and Larry Woods, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are his nephews, George Stepps, Willie Earl Woods, Llyod Henry Collins, Randall Harvey, Roceal Harvey, George Gipson, and Charles Bynum. Burial in Montrose Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2020, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Cromwell Funeral Home.
