Mrs. Vessie Mae Harris-Dawson, 72, of North Little Rock died Monday, May 20, 2019 at her home in North Little Rock, surrounded by her family and friends. She was a native of Wilmot, a resident of Little Rock and North Little Rock for the past 13 years, a retired CNA, and a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Harris; one daughter, Zada Barfield in 2017; her parents, Arthur and Larlue Smith-Stokes; six brothers, Levert, Arthur Jr., Willie, Clemon, Lee Edward, and Michael Stokes. Vessie was a person who loved people, she never met a stranger. She enjoyed gospel singing. She sung with the Portland-Montrose Community Choir. She enjoyed playing cards and cooking. Her children and grandchildren were the joys of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 2 years, James Dawson, Jr.; 2 sons, Cedric Harris, wife Siernna, and Cortney Harris, both of Little Rock; two step-sons, Tavares and Jamie Dawson, of Little Rock; one step-daughter, Lisa Dawson, of North Little Rock; one brother, Sterling Stokes, of Inglewood, CA; eight grandchildren, Ka'Presha Harris, Makaylah Harris, Makenzie Harris, Jaliyah Harris, Cedric Harris, Jr., Cornelius Harris, Marquie Jones, Makale Harris; one great grandchild, Skylar Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Service will be Saturday, May 25, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. David Owens and Rev. Byron Lewis officiating. Active Pallbearers are Jamie Dunn, Dexter Dunn, Dewayne Watt, Dominik Currenton, Leonard Stokes, and Murray Stokes. Honorary Pallbearers LeRon Morris, Lee Manning, Leroy Toston, Sr., Leroy Toston, Jr., Kenneth Stokes, Leonard Stokes, Jr., Shamarjia Stokes, and Darryl Stokes. Burial in Second Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, May 24, 2019, 5:30-7:00 p.m., at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc.
