Obituary

Mr. Vernell Wilson, Sr., 97 of Montrose, AR, transitioned Friday May 24, 2024, at Dermott City Nursing Home in Dermott, AR. He was a native of Sicily Island, LA, a former resident of Montrose, AR. Mr. Wilson was a retired brakeman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Earnisteen Wilson (2008), two sons Vernell Wilson, Jr. (2007) and Carlton Wilson (2009), his parents Seymore and Georgia Ann Drumgoole-Wilson, grandchildren, Keith C. Wilson and Travis Branch, a great-grandchild, Katarrian Johnson, three brothers Sam Wilson, L.B. Wilson, and Arthur "Johnny Boy" Wilson (2018), three sisters Azilee Wilson, Rosie Harper, and Ella Marie Lovett (2017). Mr. Wilson was a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by one son, Ronald Wilson and wife Sheila of Petersburg, VA, six daughters Evelyn A. Wilson of Montrose and Alsenia L. Wilson both of Montrose, AR, Johnnie C. Joplin of Matteson, IL, Earnestine Nelson and husband John, Val Wilson-Ward and husband Eugene, Stephanie Smith and husband Stanley all of Dermott, AR, one brother, Elmo Wilson of Indianola, MS, one sister, Laura Green and husband Andrew Sr of Nashville, TN, eighteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Funeral Service will be Saturday June 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Dermott, AR with Rev. Lawrence Glover officiating. Active Pallbearers are David Robinson, Don Peoples, Gregory Hill, Demetria Mooney, Curtis Ford, and Landrell Woods. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronald D. Wilson Sr., Kevin Wilson, Michael Wilson, Ronald Wilson, Jr., Trent Vernell Wilson, and Samuel Wilson. Burial in Providence Cemetery in Portland, AR, under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc of Hamburg, AR.

Visitation at Cromwell Funeral Home Friday May 31, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 PM.
