Mr. Roosevelt Goodwin, 86, of Hamburg, AR died Friday, January 25, 2019, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, LA. He was a native Portland, a resident of Hamburg for 42 years, retiree from the Ashley County Highway Department, and a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Christine Dooley-Goodwin; one brother, John T. Goodwin; and two sisters, Josephine Ford and Roxie Tillman. Roosevelt enjoyed watching Westerns, studying the Bible, and participating in Singing Unions.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jessie Mae Anthony-Goodwin, of Hamburg; ten sons, Rodney Goodwin(Gwendolyn), of Montgomery, TX, Justin Maurice Goodwin(Erin), of Springdale, AR, Roosevelt Goodwin, Jr. (Billie), Jerry Goodwin(Karen), both of St. Louis, MO, Larry Goodwin(Sataina), of Crossett, AR, James Earl Goodwin(Atheline), of Augusta, GA, Melvin Goodwin(Linda), of Bastrop, LA, David Goodwin, of Albany, GA, Randy Goodwin, and Alvin Glendale Goodwin, both of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Jessica Monique Goodwin, of Conway, AR and Mary Joyce Jean Goodwin, of Crossett, AR; two sisters, :Lillie Mae Howard and Anna Bester, of Chicago, IL; forty-six grandchildren; seventy-four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three brother-in-laws, Frank Anthony(Betty), of Pine Bluff, AR, William Anthony, of Chicago, IL, and Otis Anthony(Christine), of Parkdale, AR; one sister-in-law, Lucile Anthony, of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces nephews, other family, and friends.
Service will be Saturday, February 2, 2019, 3:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church in Hamburg with Moderator Larry Alexander officiating. Active Pallbearers are Charles Bynum, Tommy Dale Simpson, Derrell Newton, Donovan People, David Smith, and Randy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Kirt Grayson, Donald Mannings, Elijah Brown, the officers of Southeast District Baptist Association, and American Legion Post 111. Burial in Union Grove Cemetery in Parkdale, AR.
The family will be excepting visitors at 1463 Hwy 425 South, Hamburg, AR.
Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019, 6:30-8:00 P.M. at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. in Hamburg.
