Ollie Mae Taylor, age 83, of Little Rock (College Station), AR died Sunday April 2, 2023, with her children by her side. She worked for over 25 years at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she retired. She accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 14 at Pilgrim Rest #4 in College Station; in her early adult years, she joined and served on the usher board at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of C. Dennis Edwards. She moved to West Memphis, AR near her daughter Tammie and joined her son-in-law's church, Spring Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Cedric Coleman, and after several years, she moved back to Little Rock and joined Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of William Easter where her eldest son, Thomas is a member and deacon. Those that knew her, knew she had a love for her family, church, gospel singing, the horse, dog track, casino, and buffet eating, in that order. Ollie was best known for her sweet potato pies and phrase "Lord have Mercy!"
She was preceded in death by her parents Ollie Smith and Ruth Winfrey, 6 brothers Columbus, Ira, James, Elmer, Arthur Akins and Carmell Smith, four sisters Elsie Mae Johnson, Margaret Jefferson, Ruby Mae Campbell, Julia Dolphus, a great granddaughter Aaliyah Roberts.
She is survived by three sons Thomas Akins "Shekeita," Robert Taylor Jr., Wayne Taylor Sr. of Little Rock, AR, three daughters Connie Breland "Angelo" of Smyrna, TN, Tammie Colman " Cedric" of West Memphis, AR, Clara Taylor of Little Rock, AR, two brothers Willie Smith of Rocky Mountain, NC, William Akins of Little Rock, AR, a sister Therma Jean " Horace" of Arlington, VA, twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, bonus sister Viola Manning, bonus children Dowell, Dennis and Shasta Taylor and Felecia Ester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 8, 2023, 1:00 P.M., at Holy Cross Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR with Rev. Cedric Colman officiating. Burial at Haven of Rest Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR. Visitation will be Friday 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Baptist Church.
