Obituary

Madge E. Collins was removed from the garden of life at her home on Saturday, September 20, 2003. She was born in Fountain Hill, AR on July 30, 1924 to the late Mattie Smith Daniels and Thomas Mitchell Daniels. She grew up in Fountain Hill and attended the Fountain Hill Public School. The daughter of a Methodist preacher, she was raised in church and accepted Christ at an early age. Her first church membership was with Bethel Fountain Hill. After moving to Hamburg she united with Soldiers Chapel AME where she remained a faithful member until her death. She was a member of the pastor's aid club and a member of the mission society. She was dutiful and gave support to all the auxiliaries. She was low key when it came to leadership, but was willing to work and assist in various capacities.

Madge first married L.C. Swain and to this union four children were born. In her second marriage to Otis Jones two children were born. In her last marriage she united with Lewis Callins and to this union a son was born. Each spouse preceded her in death.

Madge was a homemaker and employed by the Hamburg Public Schools and worked in the cafeteria until her retirement. She had a way of making people feel special in their relation to her. She enjoyed traveling and being a part of her children and grandchildren's lives. Cooking was her art and she was a good cook who enjoyed cooking big meals for her family.

She was preceded in death by a brother Elihue Blanks Sr.; her oldest daughter Ella Laden; her great-granddaughter Morgan Swain; and her step mother Clara Daniel.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons Thomas Jones of Crossett, AR, Joel (Jackie) Swain of Lansing, MI, and Terry Callins of Dallas, TX; three daughters Mary Penerman and Marva Snow both of St. Louis, MO, and Juanita Henderson of Kansas City, MO; three brothers Johnny (Rotean) Sawyer of Compton, CA, Jessie Sawyer of Kansas City, MO, and Johnny Daniel of Kansas City, MO; two sisters Mary (James) Jones of Los Angeles, CA and Morteal Miller of Fountain Hill, AR; five sisters-in-law Robizine Blanks of Fountain Hill, AR, Mattie Jean Hampton of Compton, CA, Betty Ruth Tynes of Los Angeles, CA, Mable Harris of Hyattsville, MD, and Lou Willie Curry of Crossett, AR; two brothers-in-law John Swain of Compton, CA and Harvey Morris of Carthage, AR; eighteen grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, one great- grandchild, a special friend, Harold Jones of Hamburg, AR, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
