Mr. Leon Whaley, age 87 of Crossett died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Baptist Health Medical Center. He was a native of Wilmot, AR. He was a retired shipping superintendent for Georgia Pacific Plywood Mill. Mr. Whaley was a member of Union Baptist Church in Wilmot where he served as a senior deacon.
He was preceded in death by one son, Leon Whaley Jr., One daughter Linda Whaley Morrison, his parents: Doss and Caroline Bell Whaley, five brothers, Robert, Lemmie, Willie, James and Leroy Whaley, four sisters, Clementine Bailey, Alma Taylor, Christine Evans, and Ella Mae Mitchell. He enjoyed watching cowboy movies, all sports including championship wrestling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Mrs. Deloris Sellers Whaley, one son Carl Whaley, wife Marilyn, five daughters, Betty Moore, Ruby Benton, Helen Morris, husband George, Cheryl Whaley, and Alicia Whaley, one sister, Selina Coleman all of Crossett, 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, February 9, 1:00PM at Union Baptist Church in Wilmot with Rev. David Green officiating.
Active pallbearers are Rodney Whaley, Marlon Moore, Jeremy Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, JaCarlo Whaley, and Charles Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Wardell Whaley, Edward Rogers, Jr., William Jackson, Earnest Montgomery, Limmie Robinson, and Terence Rogers. Burial is in Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
