Mrs. Leatha Ann Newton, 82, of Montrose, died Saturday, January 16, at Chicot Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Crossett, but a resident of Montrose for over 50 years. She was a retired factory worker from Hamburg Shirt Factory, drove a school bus for 3 years at Lakeside school district, and a member of St. Peters Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace & Leatha Ann Rogers Warren, four sisters, Lily Bryant, Mattie Warren, Velma Ball, Hazel Davis, two brothers, Odell Warren, Sr., and Osie Warren, and one son, Carl Crow.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Allen Newton, two sons, George Crow and wife, Brenda, of Belton, MO, Melvin Crow of Dermott, AR, one step-son, Leon Allen of Oakland, CA, five daughters, Brenda Peoples and husband, Howard, of Kansas City, KS, Linda Brewer and husband, Al, of Montrose, AR, Mary Lancaster and husband, Darrell, Ruth Newton, and Dolleatha Webster all of Montrose; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 23, 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hamburg with Pastor Victor Dolls officiating. Pallbearers are Lawrence Webster, Charles Bynum, Lee Edward Plummer, Landriel Woods, Roylee Holmes, David Robinson, Larry Woods, Al Brewer, III. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Lancaster, Jr., Darius People, Eric Crow, Elvin Crow, Howard Peoples, Jr., Julien Crow, and Eugene Battle. Burial followed at Quinn Chapel Cemetery in Crossett, under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc.
