Obituary

Mr. J.P. Woods, 77 of Crossett, AR, died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Ashley County Medical Center. He was a native of Hamburg, a former resident of Carthage for many years, and a current resident of Crossett. He was a retired log truck driver for Holloway and Sons, Inc. Mr. Woods was a member of Phillip Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his church and served there as a deacon. He will be remembered as one of the best baseball umpires in southwest Arkansas.

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents, James & Beatrice Moore Woods, three brothers: James "Big Daddy" Woods, Jr., Lonnie "L.C." Woods and Alfred "Goody" Woods and two sisters, Joanne Summerland and Bertha Canady .

He is survived by three daughters: Pearline Whitfield, husband Robert of Hamburg, AR, Darlene Jimmerson of Carthage, AR & Freda Edwards of Crossett, AR, one sister, Helen Robinson of Monroe, LA, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at Phillip Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Horace Ingram, Rev. John Childress, Rev. Ephriam Johnson & Rev. Willie R. Taylor, officiating. Pallbearers are Floyd Freeman, Elvis Belleford, Tim Mooney, Terry Gilliam, William Haynes & Clarence Haynes. Honorary pallbearers are nephews. Burial in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
