Mr. Johnny Ray Spurlock, 59, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Ashley County Medical Center. He was a native of Parkdale, lived 29 years in Crossett, but a resident of Hamburg for the past 5 years. He was a former supervisor of Arkla Gas, a member of the North Main Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army and he served as a former Commander of the American Legion Scott Hood Post 51 of Bastrop, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Warren (Buck) and Henrietta Murphy Spurlock, one brother, Bobby Wayne Spurlock, one sister, Grace Lanelle Spurlock. He is survived by one daughter, Toni Rice and husband, Hank, of Crossett; three brothers, Donald Gene Spurlock, Bill Spurlock and wife, Cheryl, all of Hamburg, and Gary Spurlock and wife, Betty Carol, of Heber Springs; three sisters, Martha Mcleod and husband, John, of Hamburg, Betty Horn of Eudora, and Margaret Stinson and husband, Wayland, of Crossett; special friend and former wife, Dorothy Spurlock, of Crossett; two grandsons, Cody and Austin Rice, and one granddaughter, Jessi Rice, all of Crossett.
Funeral services were Friday, February 5, 2:30 p.m., at the North Main Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Williams and Bro. Buddy Kinney officiating. Pallbearers are Aaron Mcleod, Bubba Horn, Darrell Spurlock, Chad Sweeney, Ben Johnston, and Michael Jeffers. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Spurlock, Marty Spurlock, Chris Collins, Loren Lebrun, Jamie Rhodes, Jeff Withers, Daniel Pearson, and Mitchell Pearson. Burial will follow at Beech Creek Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc., of Hamburg.
