Mr. Johnny Butler "John B." Gibbs 87 of Hamburg, AR (Pine Hill Community), died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, AR. He was a native of Ashley County, had lived most of his life in Hamburg and Crossett, and was a former resident of Strong, AR for eight years. He was a Baptist and had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Gibbs, one son, Santonio Gibbs, one daughter, Patricia Gibbs Duff, his parents, Leonard and Josie Simpson Gibbs, six brothers: Lester, Fred, Levi, James, Jerry & Virgil Gibbs, and one sister, Jeanette Williams. John B. loved people, telling jokes and making them laugh. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by one son, Elbert Ray Gibbs, wife Lizzie of Crossett, AR, one step-daughter, Janice Smith of Strong, AR, one brother, Leonard Gibbs, Jr. wife Jean of Los Angeles, CA, twenty-two grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives loved ones and friends.
Funeral services are Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at Cromwell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Gibbs officiating. Pallbearers are Richard Gibbs, James Adams, Clifton Hawkins, James Hampton, Curtis Harris & Larry Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Crooked Creek Hunting Club. Burial in Carlock Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
