Obituary

Mr. John Henry Walker, Jr., "Duke" 89 of Wilmot, AR, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 19, 1925 to John Henry Walker & Rosia Yarby Walker Edwards. He was a lifelong resident of Wilmot, a retired farmer and a member of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by one son, James White, his parents, John Henry Walker & Rosia Yarby Walker Edwards, three brothers, Thomas Calvin & Charles Walker & Havard Edwards, four sisters: Ruby Shelton, Thenner Bell Gaston, Dorothy King & Joyce Block. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding horses and listening to music.

He is survived by two sons, Arthur C. Walker & Gregory B. Walker both of Wilmot, AR, two daughters, Vernell McDade of Hot Springs, AR & Wanda Taylor of Dallas, TX, one god-daughter, Adell Todd of Greenville, AL, three brothers: Donnie Edwards, wife Rosetta of Chicago, IL, Edward Smith, wife Rosella of Mineral Springs, AR & Kenneth Carr, wife Joyce of Conyers, GA, two sisters, Hazel Edwards & Mary Butler, husband Samuel of Wilmot, AR, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Funeral services are Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:00 pm at John Wesley A.M.E. Zion with Rev. Harold Shaw, officiating. Active pallbearers are Charles Raino, Thomas Cunningham, Larry Cunningham, Thurnell Hymes, Justin Hymes, Robert Penn, Dewayne Watt & Billy Moore. Honorary pallbearers are the Stewards and Trustees of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial in Montrose Cemetery.

Visitation from 6-8 pm Friday, November 21, 2014 in the chapel of Cromwell Funeral Home.
