John Lewis Matthews, 74 of Lake Village, AR died Monday July 18, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Portland, AR,  a resident of Lake Village for the past 3 years, and a member of Brown Temple Baptist Church. John was a retired farm laborer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Armetta Bryant-Matthews, a brother Robert Earl Matthews, and a sister Margaret Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 2 years Yolanda Crawford-Matthews, 2 sons Jazreel Hamner and Hamisha Hamner both of Tuscaloosa, AL, 2 brothers Sammie Polite (Ella) Portland, AR, and Harry Polite McGehee, AR, 1 sister Geneva Woods of Montrose, AR, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday July 22, 2022, at Brown Temple Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Kentrell Woods officiating. Burial will be at Portland #2 Cemetery.
