Rev. John Thomas Childress, 77 of Crossett, AR (White Station Community) died Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Ashley County Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Ashley County, a retiree of Jefferson Smurfitt and a member of Fudge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Suzzannah Cromwell Childress, two brothers, Henry Jr. & Vernon Childress and three sisters, Mary Walker, Ersie Mae Hawkins & Lorene Tucker. Rev. Childress pastored Phillip Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hamburg for the past 14 years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Sawyer Childress, one son, Kenneth Childress, wife Charmaine of Crossett, AR, two daughters, Felicia Babb, husband Keith of Hot Springs, AR, Natasha Williams, husband Ken of White Hall, AR, three grandchildren, Chasity & Diaz Childress & Taylah Williams, one great-grandchild Maliah Boston and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, loved ones and friends.
Funeral services are Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Phillip Grove Baptist Church with Eld. Keith Babb, Rev. James Green, Rev. Horace Ingram & Rev. Willie R. Taylor, officiating. Pallbearers are Clarence Haynes, Terry Gilliam, George Jacob, Edward Brown, Cedric Tucker, Robert Scates, James Kazee and Jonathan Greene. Burial in Ryles Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
Visitation will be Monday, March 31 from 6-7:30 P.M. at Cromwell Funeral Home.
