Mr. Joe Gene Newton, 68 of Crossett, AR, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, AR. He was a native of Strong, AR, and a Crossett resident. He retired from Ashley Drew Railroad, served his country in the U.S. Army and was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, Rhuben Lee & Riller Mae Harrison Newton, three brothers, Rhuben L. Newton, Jr., Robert L. Newton, Dennis Newton and one sister, Florence Milton. Joe loved sports, especially football and baseball.

He is survived by one son, Eric J. Newton of Los Angeles, CA, two daughters, Nikki N. Nichols of Houston, TX & Regina Whaley of Detroit, MI, one brother, Isaac Newton of Oakland, CA, one sister, Rebecca Newton Cornelius, husband Robert Jr., of Crossett, AR, four grandchildren and a host of other family, loved ones and friends.

Funeral services are Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Gates Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Harriel White, officiating. Pallbearers are Larry Rogers, Freddie Hargraves, James Adams, Curtis Harris, Charles Moore, James Martin and Robert Cornelius, Jr. Burial in Westview Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR
