Jimmie "Bud"
Edgar
December 24, 1931 – February 11, 2019
Mr. Jimmie "Bud" Edgar, 87, of Crossett, AR died Monday, February 11, 2019, at Heritage Manor Stratmore Nursing Home in Shreveport, LA, after a brief illness. Jimmie lived in many places as a boy growing up during the Depression. He and his family worked as migrant farm hands in Arizona and California, picking whatever was in season, swimming and fishing in irrigation canals, and shooting jack rabbits at sunset when the sun shone through their pink ears. He lived in Long Beach, CA, where members of his family worked in the shipyards. When he was 18 years old, his family moved to Crossett, where he met the love of his life, Mary Beth Barnett. They were married on May 25, 1951.
An avid outdoorsman, Jimmie loved to hunt, fish, and trap. He retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill after 41 years, and then served as a volunteer at the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge for nine years, trapping beaver. He loved watching Westerns, especially those starring John Wayne, reading Louis L'Amour books, and woodworking in his shop. He was a Veteran of United States Army, honorably discharged in 1955. Jimmie was instrumental in the formation of South Main Baptist Church in South Crossett and remained a faithful member until moving to Shreveport in 2016.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Myrl Hubbard-Edgar; two brothers, Cleo and C.J. Edgar; and five sisters, Beulah Poole, Geneva Norville, Helen Isaacs, Reba Johnson, and Verba Jean Reynolds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Beth Edgar; two sons, Norman Keith Edgar, and Marty Wayne Edgar(Kathy), both of Crossett, AR; two daughters, Jimmie Ann Norwood(Ron), of Bossier City, LA and Sheila Peddy(John) of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Service will be Friday, February 15, 2019, 1:00 P.M., at South Main Baptist Church in Crossett with Bro. Lyle Hern and Bro. Lloyd Townsend officiating. Pallbearers are Paul Edgar, Jeremy Norwood, Jonathan Norwood, Jamie Norwood, Chris Sivils, Allen Bates, and Steven Bostic. Burial in Arkadelphia Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.-12:00P.M., prior to the funeral, at the church.
