Miss Jewell Nelson "Smittie" Smith, 89 of Monticello, AR, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at Monticello Health Care Center. Miss Smith was a native of Ashley County, but a resident of Monticello for the past 7 years. She was a retired L.P.N., and had worked for Drew Memorial Hospital, Dr. Robert Hyatt, Dr. Lewis Hyatt and Dr. Kelton Busby. In the late 1940's and early 1950's she worked of Dermott Hospital. Mrs. Smith was a member of Crossett Full Gospel Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Nelson & Lula Flowers Smith, two brothers, John Masel & Willie Carl Smith, one sister, Opal Watkins and three infant siblings.

She is survived by one sister, Genelle Booher of Columbia, MO, seven nieces: Sherry Stahley, Ann Slaugter, Cindy Wheeless, Jequese Duncan, Denise Frost, Diane Ferrell & Dana Battison, three nephews: James Watkins, David Smith & Neal Booher, and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were Friday, March 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Cromwell Funeral Home with Sis. Cindy Wheeless, officiating. Pallbearers were Jamie Watkins, Bill Stahley, Drew Wright, Glynn Duncan, Wayne Ferrell, David Smith and Leron Slaughter. Honorary pallbearers were Shannon Fletcher & Josh Frost. Burial was in Old Bethel Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
