Elder Jasper Mays, Jr., 54, of Hamburg, died Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was a life-long resident of Hamburg, a minister and pastor at Miles Memorial COGIC in El Dorado, served as superintendent of El Dorado East District of COGIC. Bro. Mays served 13 years on Hamburg School Board, served 16 years as NAACP Representative; he served as presiding Elder of the 3rd jurisdiction of COGIC of Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Sammie Haynes Mays. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Irma Belcher Mays, two sons; Rodney & Timothy Mays, both of New Orleans, LA, one daughter, Tenilius Hampton of Santa Monica, CA, four brothers, Bishop Danny C. Mays & wife, Carolyn, Willie Mays & wife, Paula, Eddie Mays & wife, Beverly, and Phillip Mays & wife, Roshonda, all of Hamburg, six sisters, Alice Booker of Atlanta, GA, Alma Tolefree & husband, Carl, of Hamburg, Gloria Jackson & husband, Lee of Wichita, KS, Cora Hicks & husband, Robert, of El Dorado, Melinda Bess & husband, Carl, of Fort Pierce, FL, Lucille Isom of Round Rock, TX and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 23, 6-7 p.m., at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc, Funeral services are Thursday, December 24, 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Bishop Frank Anderson & Pastor Willie R. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers are Marty Davis, Sylvester Davis, Willie Ashford, Jarmarcus Mays, Kevin Stroud, Derrick Booker, Antonio Mays, and Chris Mays. Honorary pallbearers are the Ministers of COGIC. Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc, in Hamburg.
