Mr. James William "Billy" Smith, 77 of Crossett, AR (Cooter Community) died Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Ashley County Medical Center. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Crossett. He was a retired shipping clerk for Georgia Pacific Tissue Mill, and a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Blanche Smith in 2003, his father, James Smith, his mother & step-father, Myrtle Mae Maxwell Forrest & Rayford Forrest, one sister, Amaryllis Ray Chunn and a brother, Ransey Wallace Forrest. He served his country in the US Army Medical Corp.
He is survived by one son, James Scott Smith of Crossett, AR, one daughter, Kristie, husband John Michau of Chester, SC, four brothers: Lester Forrest, Ronna Dean, wife Shirley Forrest & Woodrow, wife Judy Forrest all of Crossett, AR & Keith, wife Debbie Forrest of Parkdale, AR, two sisters, Mary Sue, husband Harry Ferugson of Crossett, AR & Donna Jean, husband John Coronado of Chatham, LA, six grandchildren, Kayla, husband J.D. Andrews, Melanie & Devin Carpenter & Stephanie, Christopher, Chase Smith, two step-grandsons, Eric & Matt Michau, two great-grandchildren, Kaydence & Alayna Andrews, one aunt, Sue Miller of Crossett, AR, and one uncle, Lester Maxwell of St. Francesville, LA.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Cromwell Funeral Home with Bro. Art Crymes, & Bro. Mike Chain officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Carpenter, Joe Baird, Dale Maxwell, Chris Forrest, Heath Eppinette, Steve Thomas, Greg Cooper & Doug Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Schilders, Travis Warren, Luke Clark, Lemmie Miller, Billy Joe Chunn and all men of Community Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in Carlock Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
