James Perry 'J P' Johnson was born June 5, 1954, to Edgar and Mollie Gilliam Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Crossett, AR. He was a graduate of Crossett High School Class of 1972 and a United States Army veteran. He was employed in the maintenance department of Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill until he retired in 2008.
Perry was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Ushers Ministry and was a part of the Male Chorus, Brotherhood, Morning Prayer Group, and Sunday School Class # 1. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Exodus Lodge #403 and past Worshipful Master. He was also a past High Priest of Royal Arch Masons, and a member of The Order of Eastern Star. He was a God-fearing man who always encouraged his daughters to stay faithful to God's Word. He enjoyed listening to music, playing chess, reading, traveling, sitting outside watching his grandchildren play and spending time with his family and friends. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, James Perry Johnson gained his wings with his daughters by his bedside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mollie Gilliam Johnson, three brothers, Curtis Ray Johnson, Clemmie Carter, and John Thomas Carter, three sisters, Bessie Rembert, Arnay Tillman, and Christine Johnson.
Left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Tyisha and husband Undrea Fletcher and Yolanda and husband Normane Martin both of Crossett, AR, three brothers, Carlton and wife Debra of Detroit, MI, Edgar Johnson, Jr. and Charles and wife Sharon Adkins both of Crossett, AR, two sisters, Jean Wheeler and Carolyn Green both of Detroit, MI, three grandchildren, DeAndre Fletcher and Avery and Anthony Martin all of Crossett, AR, one God Daughter, Leslie Jasper and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. Services will be held at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church 309 N. Georgia Street, Crossett, AR 71635
