Rev. James Elvin McDill, Sr., 80 of Hamburg, AR, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at his residence outside of Hamburg. He was a native of Alabama, a former resident of Greensburg, LA, and lived in Ashley County for the past 26 years. He was a minister, retired truck driver, and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in the Snyder Community.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Rosa Florence Allen-McDill, a daughter, Shirley Marie McDill, a grandson, Dean White, a great granddaughter Kristen Tate, his parents, Walter and Beatrice McDill, four brothers Leon, Ralph, Raymond, and David Mcdill, three sisters, Margie, Betty, and Kate McDill. Rev. McDill had pastored several churches in south Arkansas, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on lawnmowers. He also loved to play his guitar.
He was survived by his wife of eight years, Dorothy Wilson McDill, four sons, Rev. James Elvin McDill, Jr., wife Nancy, Stanley Dale McDill all of Hamburg, Rev. Paul Edward McDill, wife Jeanne of Monroe, LA, Michael Joseph McDill, wife Mary Ann of Hamburg, three brothers, Kenneth McDill of Hamburg, Dean McDill, wife Nancy of Columbus, MS, Franklin McDill, wife Shirly of Louisville, MS, two sisters, Lucille Carter, husband Hank of Columbus, MS, and Rubie Black of Ackerman, MS, fourteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Snyder Community with Bro. Paul Payne and Bro. Elvin McDill Jr. officiating. The remains will lie in state at Mr. McDills home at 326 Linder Rd. in Hamburg Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. till 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Pallbearers are Curtis "Elmo" McDill, Zack Duncan, Daniel Rice, Lynn Oliver, Shane Copes, Alex "Bubba" Lincoln, Ricky Burns, and Mike White. Honorary Pallbearer is Chris Wilson. Memorials to be made to Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church, 708 Ashley 60 Rd., Montrose, AR 71658. Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
