James Ellis, age 90 of Crossett, died Friday, October 20, 2017 at Stonegate Villa Health and Rehabilitation. He was a native of Colquitt, LA, a retiree of Georgia Pacific Plywood Mill and a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church.

In 1950, Mr. Ellis accepted Jesus as his personal savior. He served as a deacon for over 60 years.  He was a Sunday school teacher, a faithful member of the Senior Choir and served in many other areas of the church.  Bro. Ellis, affectionately known as "Deacon", loved his church and was a devout Christian.  He was a member of the Southeast Singing Union #3 where he served as vice president, a member of the Exodus Masonic Lodge #403 and member of the Westview Cemetery Association.  A devoted father and grandfather, Mr. Ellis loved his family and was highly respected by all who knew him.

Mr. Ellis is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virgie Mae Ellis; three sons, James Edward, Willie Elmer and Charles Ray Ellis; his parents, Charlie and Maggie Curry-Ellis; and several brothers and sisters.

James is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Walker of Monroe, LA and one adopted daughter, Sheila Haynes (Anthony) of Mansfield, TX; four sons, William Ellis (Linda), Michael Ellis both of Crossett, Cleveland Ellis of Little Rock, AR and Carlos Ellis of Collinsville, TN; one sister, Margaret Kirk of Benton, LA; one brother, King Ellis of Los Angeles, CA; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-nine great grandchildren; 35 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Services are 11:00AM on Saturday, October 28 ^th at New Bethel Baptist Church located at 309 Georgia Street in Crossett with the Rev. Walter Witherspoon and Rev. Murlee Carter officiating.  Pallbearers are Marcus Ellis, Derrick Ellis, William Ellis, Jr., Chadrick Ellis Clyde Jones, Jr. and Chris Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.  Visitation is 5:30-7:30 on Friday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church located at 3011 Porter Jasper Road in Crossett.  Burial in Westview Cemetery.
