Rev. James Henry Childress, 65, Crossett (White Station Community), died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Ashley County Medical Center. He was a native of Crossett, a Baptist minister, a former employee of Vescom Security, the pastor of Fudge Baptist Church in White Station, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, a former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Smackover, Promiseland Baptist Church in Lacey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon & Bobbie Lee Rhodes Childress, one brother, Charles Lee Childress.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vernie Mae Franklin Childress, one daughter, Angle Childress of Monticello, and one grandchild, Michael James Childress and a host of other family & friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, 5-7 p.m., at Cromwell Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, October 26, 1 p.m., at New Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Curtis Tatum & Bro. Jesse Radford officiating. Pallbearers are David Childress, Ray Charles Tucker, Sammie Lee Tucker, Walker Hendrix, Alphonso Franklin, John Franklin Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Franklin, Bryant Rogers, Tyrone Franklin, John Porter Franklin, Deverick Franklin, Darnell Handley, Dominque Smith, and T.W. Daniel Class of 1964. Burial will follow at Ryles Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc.
