Mr. James Edward "Pappy" Adams, 69, of Crossett, AR, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Ashley County Medical Center. He was a native of Crossett, AR, a retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Mill after 36 years of employment, and was a member of Gates Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He was preceded in death by one son, Sean Adams, his parents, Leonard McClain and Daisy Mae Daniels, his grandmother who helped raise him, Pauline Lindsey, three brothers: Kenneth Ray Harris, Willie James Williams and Rogene Adams, two sisters, Martha Sue Adams & Freddie Mae Harbison.
Pappy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved people and people loved him back. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and had rode it all over the country. He was the road captain and was a member of the Nubian Kruzers Riding Club. He was an usher at his church, Gates Chapel A.M.E. He was a former cub scout master and was a member of the Ashley County Rescue Unit. Pappy coached little league baseball, and was a member of the Elk's Lodge; he was also leader of the Silver Air Patrol.
He leaves to keep and cherish his memories, his wife of 49 years, Edna Williams Adams, three sons: Eric Adams, Lazarus Adams & Devins Adams all of Crossett, AR, three sisters:Shirley Sims & Pauline Minnieweather both of Crossett, AR and Diane Adams of Oakland, CA, four grandchildren: Brittany, Paytience, Lazarus Jr., and Lazaria Adams all of Crossett, AR, three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Funeral services are Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Multi-Purpose Building, 703 Pine Street, with Minister Edna Adams, Rev. Harriel White, Rev. Ethalbert Slater & Dr. Abigail Slater, officiating. Active pallbearers are Jesse Crosley, Jimmy Thornton, James Adams, Gordon Kidd, Larry Robers, Billy Reyland, Keith Martin & Clay Ellison. Honorary pallbearers are the Nubian Ryders, the Ashley County Rescue Unit, Cub Scout Pack 150 and the T.W. Daniels Class of 1964 & 1965. Burial in Westview Cemetery.
