Mr. Jack Henry "J" Hill, 74 of Hamburg, AR, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Ashley County Medical Center. Mr. Hill was a lifelong resident of Hamburg, a retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, a current funeral directors assistant at Cromwell Funeral Home, and a member of Soldiers Chapel AME Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Henry Hill II, his parents, Eugene Augustus & Alice Elizabeth Cason Hill, and three brothers: Eugene Hill, Jr., Bobby Gene Hill, and Augustus Hill. Mr. Hill served as church treasurer, trustee president, and as an usher at Soldiers Chapel AME Church. He was a member of the Mens Sunday School Class, and was also past president of the Usher and Steward Boards. After retiring from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in 1995, he began working at Cromwell Funeral Home as a funeral directors assistant.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Marie Swinney Hill, one son, Bobby Hill, fiance Lynda of Little Rock, AR, three daughters, Jacqueline Rachal, husband Eugene and Debra Scott all of Hamburg, AR, Barbara LaJune Hill of Little Rock, AR, one brother, James Hill of Crossett, AR, eight grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren.
Funeral services are Monday, April 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Gwain Hammock, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 6-8 PM at Soldiers Chapel AME Church. Pallbearers are Michael Scott, James Adams, Louis Wallace, Lawrence Booker, Curtis Hill, Edward Morgan, Glen Stanley and Ronald Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers are Stewards and Trustees of Soldiers Chapel AME Church. Burial in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home.
