Obituary

Mrs. Eunice M. Webb Griffin, 88 of Crossett transitioned on February 6, 2023, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Her parents were the late J. B. and Sallie Franklin Webb. They traveled across the Johnsville area to Crossett working to provide for their family of six children.

In 1954 she graduated from T. W. Daniel in Crossett where she was a basketball player with her childhood friends. She married her high school sweetheart, Willie E. Griffin, Sr. and moved to North Crossett (in the Bovine Community) where she lived for 68 years. Their union brought six boys and one girl. Those children were taught to work, go to church and to love one another. The five remaining children know that their parents were the best of God and no one could tell them differently. The family attended and were strong members of Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Crossett.

Mrs. Griffin's life was filled with work experiences in with her parents, aunts and uncles as they worked in the fields -picked cotton and was able to produce more than a 100 pound bag at the end of a day, harvested vegetable crops, worked with her hands in private homes, and was a strict but loving babysitter for families. She kept busy working until her days of retirement from the Ramada Inn of Crossett as the Executive Housekeeper in 1995. She looked forward to the time she and her husband spent traveling until his health declined. Her work experiences included janitorial services at AP&L, St. Mark Episcopal Church, the Switzer Motel and private homes. She loved to work, sew, cook, share with others, and most of all the time she could share with her family.

She loved the days where she would prepare dinners for the holidays for her family gatherings and could have a spread that was fulfilling for all. Thanksgiving and the summer holiday in July were her favorite times for family to meet and share. Her hands for gardening had a green thumb. She could bring plants back to life and double the size to share with others. Cooking, sewing, fishing, canning foods, and material painting were her favorite things to do other than word search puzzles. Her later years of sharing conversations over the phone gave her great joy and fulfillment.

Daniels.  She leaves eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and relatives who will remember her fondly. She was a no-nonsense woman who said what she meant and meant what she said. She had a strong hand and could use it swiftly when needed - spare the rod/spoil the child.
