Mr. Elgin Canley, 79, of Crossett, AR, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Ashley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Canley was a native of Lockhart, LA, but a resident of Crossett for the past 70 years, a retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, and a member of Davis Memorial COGIC. Preceded in death by his parents, Jonas & Roscity Slade Canley, three brothers, J.M. Canley, Johnny "Baby Ray" Canley, Dennis Malvin Canley (July 31, 2009), three sisters, Girdy Ross, Earlene Hawkins & Pinkie Canley.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Adkins Canley, three sons, Rev. Allen & Michele Canley of Memphis, Terry L. & Tangerine Adkins of Los Angeles, CA, & Aubrey C. Canley of Crossett, one daughter, Marita L. & Anthony Sykes of Memphis, three brothers, L.V. & Louise Canley of Santa Barbara, CA, Warner Canley, Willie Earl & Jenetta Canley all of Tacoma, WA, four sisters, Ruby Robinson, Nobie Lovett both of El Dorado, AR, Sula Carson of Richmond, CA, & Betty Andrews of Crossett, nine grandchildren & six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Saturday, October 10, 12 p.m. at Davis Memorial COGIC, with Rev. Allen Canley & Elder Roy E. Mathaney, Jr., officiating. Visitation is Friday, 6-7 p.m., at Cromwell Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Raymond Canley, Jonathan Canley, T.L. Lowe, Rev. Charles Adkins, Ray Hubbard, James Adams. Honorary pallbearers are Aubrey Canley, Keenon Canley, Ralpheal Adkins, Ricky Harper, Curtis Harper, Antonio Reed, & Donnie Ray Canley. Burial at Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
