Cloten James, 68 of Hamburg, AR transitioned Thursday, September 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was a native of Montrose, but a resident of Hamburg most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew James, Sr. and Verla Mae Vinson, two sisters, Debbie Joe James and Ida Mae Johnson; and three brothers, Eugene Morris, Robert Curtis, and Charles Edward James.

Cloten enjoyed doing housework and cooking. She had a kind spirit and would help others any way she could. Her favorite pastime was fishing. She would put on her waders and get in the water with no thought of danger, only catching fish.

She is survived by two daughters, Crystal and husband James Jones, and Galena and husband Timothy Mooney all of Hamburg, AR, three sons, Steven and wife Nicole Brown of Dallas, TX, Christopher Douglas of Hamburg, AR, and Oliver Lee and wife Adrian Caldwell of Houston, TX, five brothers, Jessie James and Thurman Lee Morris both of Hamburg, AR, Andrew James, Jr., and Billy Ray James both of Pine Bluff, AR, and Grenlin James of Kansas City, MO, four sisters, Pearlie James of Hamburg, AR, Clauzell and husband Theodore Gates of Crossett, AR, Diane James and Shirley James both of Pine Bluff, AR, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and best friend for 48 years, Mayor Joseph Carlton of Montrose, AR.

Visitation is Friday, October 2, 2026, at Cromwell Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Funeral service is Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Kenneth Williams officiating. Pallbearers are Johnny Moore, James Carter, Stacy Kennedy, Jonathan Goodwin, Kobe Brown, and Jerry Ederington. Burial in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, Arkansas.
