Obituary

Charlie Immon Kennedy, 62 of Portland, AR, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock, AR. He was a native and life-long resident of Portland, AR, a warehouse supervisor, a member of Green Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church in Portland where he served as superintendent in Sunday School, a Steward, and also served as a District Steward, Trustee Ministry, and a 32nd Degree Mason Member of Ziff Lodge 119 in Dermott. Charlie served on the Mainline Health Systems Board as President from 1993-2012, a member of Portland City Council, and a retired volunteer fireman with Portland Fire Department. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, was a member of Clayborne Hunting Club, and loved the Razorbacks.

He was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-one years, Veronica Kennedy who passed June 2009, parents, Mingo "MK" Kennedy and Beatrice McCoy-Kennedy, three brothers, Willie "MK", James, and Curtis Kennedy, and one sister, Brenda Kennedy.

He is survived by two sons, Steacy Kennedy of Portland, AR, Carlos Washington, wife Candice of Grand Praire, TX, six daughters, Kenna Kennedy of Portland, AR, Felicia Kennedy of Atlanta, GA, Angela Evans, husband Bobby, Tonya Williams, both of Bossier City, LA, Charla Gix, husband Roosevelt of Monroe, LA, Monique Robinson, husband Thesiaus of Manhattan, KS, three brothers, Vernon Kennedy, wife Cora of Chicago, IL, Lorenzo Kennedy of Sherwood, AR, Ronald Kennedy of Chicago, IL, two sisters, Patsy Thompson, husband Ronnie of Sherwood, AR, Lena Kennedy of Lake Village, AR, sixteen grandchildren, one god son, Louis Kennedy (Gaston), two god-grandchildren, Jaylan Holmes of Portland, AR, Daylen Conley of Monticello, AR, and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral service is Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Portland #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Portland, AR with Presiding Elder James R. Hooper, Rev. James Andrews, and Rev. Archie Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Matt Webb, Jonathan Webb, Chester Dunn, Charles Byron, David Robinson, and Herman Curtis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mainline Health Systems and Portland City Council. Visitation is Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, 901 N University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207 or the Portland #2 Cemetery c/o Jessie Daniels, P.O. Box 306, Portland, AR 71663. Burial in Portland #2 Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
