Mr. Calvin Brooks Bassett, 86 of Crossett, AR died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Jones, OK but a resident of Crossett for the past 18 years. He also resided in Farmington, NM for 48 years. He was a retired laborer in the construction industry. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and of the Assembly of God faith. Mr. Bassett enjoyed ceramics, quilting, walking, and fishing.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years: M. Gayle Hutson Bassett; his parents: Clarence Constantine and Mary Etta Brooks Bassett; two brothers: William and John Bassett; and two sisters: Mable Bassett and Mary Bassett Sowell.

He is survived by three sons: Raymond Bassett of Crossett, AR, Phillip Bassett and wife Diana of Corning, IA, and Russell Bassett and wife Jennifer of Strong, AR; one daughter: Vanessa Bassett Porter of Crossett, AR; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00A.M. at Simms Cemetery with Bro. Chris Croswell officiating, under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg , AR. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Bassett, Jr., Billy Bassett, David Bassett, Johnny Bassett, Kenneth Wesson, and Robert Wesson. Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Cromwell Funeral Home from 6:00-7:00P.M.
