Mr. Archie James "A.J." Harris, Jr., 76, of Crossett, died Friday, February 12, 2010, at his residence. He was a native of Parkdale, but a resident of Crossett for the past 60 years. He was a retired Superintendent for G.P. Plywood Mill, and a member of Gates Chapel AME. He was a Master Mason and a member of Exodus Lodge #403 Crossett.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Harris; his parents, Archie James and LeVella McElroy Harris; one brother, Elijah Harris; and one sister, Nettie Kimble. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Sims Harris; two sons, Archie Harris and Charles Sims, all of Crossett; two daughters, Jacqueline Rhodes of Bastrop, LA, and Linda Henderson of Rockford, IL; one brother, John H Harris of Milwaukee, WS; and five sisters, Ence Almighty of Milwaukee, WI, Lucille Lewis of Long Beach, CA, Dorothy Eason, Mildred Dotson & Mae Dean Oglesby all of Milwaukee, WI, and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, 6-7 p.m., at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Gates Chapel AME with Rev Tyrone Broomfield officiating. Pallbearers are Perry Johnson, Charles Sims, James Adams, Cordell Edwards, Eddie Lee Colbert, and Curtis Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. of Hamburg.
